Gonstead Technique in West Knoxville
At Volunteer Chiropractic we understand that not every person is the same, and because of that, we proudly offer many specific adjusting methods to meet your needs. With the Gonstead Technique, often considered the “gold standard” in chiropractic, we can address your concerns through evidence-based practices.
What Is the Gonstead Technique?
Named after its developer, Dr. Clarence Gonstead, the technique uses a thorough evaluation process that includes palpation, static and motion X-rays, and orthopedic testing to evaluate the exact location of vertebral subluxations or misalignments.
What to Expect
After reviewing your health history, Dr. Dan will conduct a thorough examination, which can include the following:
- X-rays
- An orthopedic evaluation
- A neurologic evaluation
- A movement screen
We use our fingertips to “palpate” or feel the location of individual bones and how they may differ from their normal position. To adjust your lower spine and pelvis, we’ll have you lie on your side. Subluxations in the middle back are corrected either lying face down or on your back. When you are seated or lying down, we can restore the integrity of your spine without twisting or rotating your neck. You may or may not hear a slight “popping” sound; that’s what we call cavitation, which is nothing to be concerned about.
