Tis the season for a flurry of sneezes, noses that drip like a faucet and scratchy throats that makes swallowing painful. The common cold causes many of us to miss school, work and events. While over-the-counter cold remedies abound at the drugstore, we believe in taking a natural approach.
Five Tips to Zap the Cold
#1. Get adjusted. Getting adjusted regularly can help to keep your nervous system healthy which keeps the immune system tuned up. Getting adjusted also will open up those sinus passages and get things flowing. When your immune system is functioning as it should, you will be able to fend off a flurry of bugs.
#2. Catch plenty of Zzzzzzs. If you don’t get adequate rest, your body can’t heal. Your immune system also can’t work at its peak. By getting 7-8 hours of quality sleep a night, your body will be in a better position to ward off the cold virus.
#3. Stay hydrated. Ensure you drink eight glasses of pure water a day. By staying hydrated, you can keep your immune system operating optimally and your health higher. You’ll know you’re consuming enough fluids if your urine is clear.
#4. Wash your hands. A bevy of bugs lurks everywhere—from the grocery store cart to the door handle of a store. Always avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth to prevent transmission of the virus. Use the disinfecting wipes that many stores feature or carry hand sanitizer with you too to wipe the cart handle. Then when you can wash your hands do so thoroughly—for at least 20 seconds.
#5. Supp up. If your symptoms are related to the flu, we will examine you and possibly recommend certain supplements that could be helpful.
